Feature Surveys
Detailed site analysis showing existing structures, contours, and levels required by the WAPC, architects, and builders.
When undertaking any type of land development in Western Australia, a Feature Survey (also known as a Feature and Level Survey, or Contour and Detail Survey) is the first step in the process and necessary for a Planning and Building Application.
What is a Feature Survey?
Feature surveys detail all the natural and man-made features on a property and adjoining properties. The resulting plan shows the location of existing structures, features, levels, and contours. It shows everything that is required by your local council to modify or develop property and land.
The survey information is used by council, architects and builders to see factors such as:
- Ground level
- Contours
- Existing structures
- Adjoining structures
- Fences
- Utility services
- Drains
- Trees
All of these things have a bearing on what is possible in terms of design, building, land development and subdivision.
It’s vital to have a feature and level survey done first to avoid disappointment and costly mistakes later during the building process.
WHEN ARE FEATURE SURVEYS NEEDED?
This type of survey is required by WAPC prior to development and also by architects/builders when designing any new residences or additions to an existing house or building.
